Sunday-Ps. 126 is an odd prayer. It seems to take the position that the future has happened in the first verses, but then pleads for change at the end. I like that perspective on prayer that one day a better future will be our past.
Monday-“The ancient practice of lectio divina has its roots in Judaism. Lectio divina flows out of a Hebrew method of studying Scripture called haggadah, a process of learning by heart.”
Tuesday-"So much of our depletion comes from a sense of scarcity, and yet if we just look at the world of herbs, we discover God’s generous abundance in plants that heal, offer fragrant delight, and give us pleasure in eating. Thursday- Thomas Merton wrote: ‘The whole world runs by rhythms I have not yet learned to recognize, rhythms that were not those of the engineer.’ In a technological world, we live by engineered rhythms, rhythms that demand we are ‘on’ and accessible most hours of the day.”
Friday-“Praise the LORD, O my soul!” Unfortunately, the word “praise” seems nonexistent in the lives of many people today. Our lives have become tainted with complaints and supplications that betray an all-about-what-I-want attitude. But the psalmist calls our minds back to the need to be grateful regardless of our circumstances. After all, Christ’s love for us never wavered, despite what He endured—and not for His own sake but for our good. Pittsburgh Seminary
Saturday-Mahatma Gandhi-Although we sing, “All glory to God on High and on the earth be peace,” there seems to be today neither glory to God nor peace on earth. As long as it remains a hunger still unsatisfied, as long as Christ is not yet born, we have to look forward to him. When real peace is established, we will not need demonstrations, but it will be echoed in our life, not only in individual life, but in corporate life. Then we shall say Christ is born.…Then we will not think of a particular day in the year as that of the birth of the Christ, but as an ever-recurring event which can be enacted in every life.
